Mikel & Me Hair Salon is a relatively new business located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida serving all customers from the area and abroad. The owners are very experienced with many years in the business with a long list of customers. Mikel decided to give it a try and open a business on his own. The result is being a great success.

RESPONSIVE DESIGN

Responsiveness was the major concern, from the get-go, for this customer so his portfolio looks beautiful in all screens (e.g. desktop, iPads, and smartphones).
We did a lot of testing to accomplish this feature taking into account the most popular devices in the market.

Case Study

This was my first project for a Hair Dresser Salon so it was all new for me about the business, hair styles, materials, trend, social appeal, and vision. For Mikel, opening a business on a new location, it was key having a website easy to navigate, simple, playful, but at the same time telling the story about his top quality of work. We focused mainly in the portfolio and service page, with social media readiness, so they became evident pieces of the website.

Briefing

This website, being built in WordPress 4.7.5, brings the flexibility of a typical Content Management System (CMS) allowing the owner/editor to make changes on his own. From the backend, the owner has full control over all processes from beginning to end including exchanging images, text, categories and adding new posts to the blog.

All images have specific ratios and proportions. Owner was provided with mockups to avoid inconsistency in the design intent. This is very important when the designer is not involved in further maintenance of images, text, and the layout itself but rather this tasks are returned to the client or someone else.

What We Learned

A hair salon portfolio can be fun! We followed along the process of collecting images, customer reviews, hair styles categorization, and even prices. We were included in all aspects of the business and we found out it is a fun business with a horizon of creativity. The stories told in the salon were unique and hilarious! Can’t tell.
